The cottage accommodation in detail

The living room

Living room with flat screen TV and log burner

The living room features a pair of comfortable two seater sofas. It has the original solid wood floor and brick hearth with a wood burning stove. In the winter we provide plenty of logs so that our guests can make the room even cosier with a real fire. There is a wall mounted LCD TV with Freeview and a DVD player. For days when guests just want to relax in the house we have provided a wide selection of books, games and puzzles suitable for most age groups. Guests have free use of the cottage Wi-Fi, useful for researching local attractions and keeping in touch with friends and family. The living room opens onto the kitchen dining area to make a light and sociable space.

Kitchen dining room

The kitchen is well-equipped for self-catering (although Sidmouth has a wealth of places to eat within easy walking distance!). The pine plank dining table seats four and the kitchen facilities include a gas hob (stovetop), electric oven, microwave, fridge with ice box and dishwasher. At the back of the house, just outside the kitchen door is a lean-to with a washer/drier. To help our guests unwind after their journey we provide a welcome tray with coffee, tea, sugar and biscuits as well as fresh milk in the fridge.

Master bedroom

Double bedroom with wardrobe, dressing table and a comfy king size bed

The master bedroom is a cosy double room. The bed is a European 5 foot king-size bed (which our American guests may know as a Queen) with a Silentnight pocket sprung mattress. We want our guests to enjoy a comfortable night’s sleep so with this in mind:

  • The curtains have black out linings so that you won’t be disturbed by early morning sunshine.
  • We’ve provided a radio alarm clock for those who like to be up with the lark.
  • The duvets and pillows are non-allergenic.
  • In the winter you can use the thermostatic radiator valves to adjust the bedroom temperatures to suit your own preferences.

Twin bedroom

The second bedroom is a comfortable twin room with two 3′ single beds with Silentnight pocket sprung mattresses. It has hanging space and a pine chest of drawers. The large window looks out over the back garden. Please note that due to the unusual shape of the room it’s not possible to push the two single beds together to make a double. Bed linen is provided and both bedrooms have mirrors and hair dryers.

Family bathroom

The bathroom features a bath, electric shower over the bath, basin and w.c. There’s also a ladder-style radiator for drying towels and keeping the bathroom warm in the winter. Instant hot water is provided by a combination boiler. We provide bath and hand towels at no extra charge (please note that we don’t provide beach towels).

Parking and the cottage garden

At the front of the house guests have free use of a private off-street parking area with space for one car. At the back, the kitchen door opens onto a private patio with table and chairs so that in summertime guests can take advantage of the morning and evening sunshine. Further down the garden there is a sunny, sheltered seating area with two benches and views across to the hills on the other side of the Sid Valley. It’s an ideal spot to relax with the Sunday papers or a good book. The long back garden features a variety of flowering shrubs and trees and is laid with local stone chippings.

Some notes on accessibility

The cottage is arranged on two floors. The bedrooms and the bathroom are upstairs on the first floor and accessed by a fairly steep and narrow staircase which makes the cottage unsuitable for guests with limited mobility. The shower is over the bath so has a high step into it. The ground floor is mostly level with one small step at the front door and another between the living room and kitchen. Guests have exclusive use of the private off-road parking area immediately in front of the cottage. It is a 15 to 20 minute level walk from the cottage to the town centre and sea front. There’s a regular bus service that stops within 5 minutes walk of the cottage and goes into the town centre and also to neighbouring towns and to Exeter. There are also local minicab services available.

We slept so well! It was very peaceful and relaxing.

Very comfortable, well-presented homely cottage.

January 2015

It is cosy and homely, while at the same time spacious enough to relax in and not feel like you have to go out. We even chose to stay in one night… and cook for ourselves rather than go out for dinner in town – something we would never normally do!
